"To You" | Diana Lee | Bukky Fehintola | Photograph Prose

They shared a table
and a drink
a handsome dapper man
comfortable in his skin
a woman searching
in a country not her own

They shared unexpected intimacies
as strangers often do,
stumbling along in two languages
the alcohol loosening tongues
as their stories flew
with intensity between them
stories
with a sudden need to be spoken
to be heard
remembered

Then, with one last sip
and the inevitability
of something always left behind
she said goodbye and turned to go
a slow glance over her shoulder
watching his knowing eyes
as he raised his glass
and said
‘To You’
